Users review: Greetings again from the darkness. I think this qualifies as director Oliver Stone to return to its dark side back. Based on Don Winslow novel, it is certainly the basis for a complex, down-and-dirty, twisted plot, double-cross, triangle, ultra-violent, drug-dealing sm? Rg? Sbord be. And while owning all these elements, still manage to come across as a slick Michael Mann cable TV project.De film begins with narration from O (Blake Lively), who tells us that just because they tell us this story, do not they say lives in the end. Huh? She also that she is in love with two drug dealing buddies. Yes, both. Chon (Taylor Kitsch) is ex-Seal and muscles in the company. Ben (Aaron Johnson) is the talented botanist who makes Afghan seeds the most potent pot in southern California. Oh, and Ben is the ultimate philanthropist drug dealer. He builds schools in third world countries and invest in clean energy. After what felt like an eternity, the story finally ended and I could not stop scream Shut up, O screen.One day when the boys get a video through email. It is an invitation to a business meeting with the Mexican Baja Cartel. It is enough to say that the video contained no balloons or party animals. It was more like a warning of what happens when you choose to do business with us. No business cartel Stooges are played by Demian Bichir (A Better Life verse) and Benecio Del Toro (MIA since The Wolfman). Queen of the cartel Elena, played by Salma Hayak. The camera loves her, but it is too early to say if she was as an actress absolute power. The only character who is really fun to see, Lado, played by Del Toro. He is truly a scary man who also happens to have about how to take weak.The whole good vs. evil story line really only works when one side is right and one side is evil. Misleading spirit If RS (Ben) is a drug dealer in a love triangle with his best friend, is much harder to collect empathy. Otherwise, if the mandatory hostage / money exchanges happen, we really arent invested in characters ... and action is central. There are signs of a forgettable film without any real heart.
