Users review: Without looking, I'm sure that other members of the site titled their article Best War Movie ever made, and I agree. But before briefly discuss the film, let me tell you that if you do not have a 5.1 surround sound system decent, you will not fully appreciate this film (DVD). This is a good movie to start and sit in a room surrounded by five speakers with bullets flying in all directions around you - as in the spectacular 22 - minute opening scene or the last 45 , res minutes of action against the Germans in tanks - is an incredible cinematic experience. The sound of this film raises the same visual higher.The are outstanding, too. I've never seen so many shades of green gray, beige and olive watch this: perfect colors for machines of the French bombed city the last hour will take place, perfect for faces and uniforms of soldiers gritty, smoky sky, etc.My only complaint using the Lords name in vain 25 30 times, but hey, when you think its hard men in hard times, that's what you'll hear. In real life, swearing was probably worse than the film. It is difficult to see the brutal war be worse than what you see here, but it probably was. It is about as graphic as it gets. The violence and gore is shocking when this film was released in 1997, and remains when nearly a decade later. Its amazing what some soldiers crossed World War II, but that can be said for any war. I think the purpose of this film was to pay tribute to the victims of these men did, and he succeeded incredible. In that it is memorable, not only does not do it justice. It is the best war movie ever made .... period.
